2022 Summer Away Day

19th July 2022

Opex values teamwork strongly, and there is no better way to help foster strong teams than to spend time together. In the new post covid era, remote working has brought with it many advantages, but it also brings challenges. One of these is building strong team bonds and relationships whilst not all working in the same physical location.

Every summer, we take time out of our schedule for an away day to reconnect with each other, away from meeting rooms and screens. Our summer away day is a chance to meet as a team (rather than on Teams!) and enjoy some time together, recognizing the progress in the year so far and laying the foundations for the second part of the year.

This year, in glorious weather, we took a trip along the local canal in traditional narrow boats.

The slow pace of river life provided the perfect setting for the team to catch up with each other, exchanging news and building bonds that help to carry us through the Teams calls and emails. As we headed off from the dock, chugging down the canal, we all took turns on the tiller (the steering arm) of the boat while the others were spotting for obstacles, and everyone else enjoyed snacking away in the saloon (the seated area).

After cruising along the canal, we moored up at the locks to set out our picnic in true English countryside fashion. After a leisurely return journey back along the canal, we rounded the day out with a team dinner, celebrating the achievements of the year so far and recognizing the challenges we had overcome together.

With a busy day-to-day schedule and several staff working remotely, it is easy to become detached from the team community of the office. Away days such as these help us to reconnect as a team and also to reflect on what we have achieved together in the year.

This event highlighted Opex’s culture of teamwork, fun, and friendship, and we returned to work refreshed and energized, ready to tackle the next challenging projects.

2022 Xmas Party

9th December 2022

As the year drew to a close, we took time to come together to recognize and celebrate the achievements of the year, the hard work and the many projects completed.

Glitz and Glamour was the theme for the night at the Moonlight and Mistletoe festive evening for our Opex Christmas celebrations.  What an amazing evening had by all, with men in Black Ties and women in Ball Gowns at this spectacular Masquerade Ball hosted at the exclusive Empire Banqueting Hall in Leicester.

The doors opened at 7 pm with photographs taken on entry by a Paparazzi Photographer and themed characters meeting and greeting us all.  This was followed closely by a wealth of entertainment before a delicious 3-course meal was served; the evening included a…

…fantastic fire show, fun casino tables, angle grinders, stilt walkers and a spectacular dance show.

Taking full advantage of the opportunity to unwind, the night carried on with music and dancing until the small hours, when carriages finally departed to take people home.

After a busy fourth quarter, with a push to close out projects for clients before the start of the new year, it was good to be able to spend some time away from the office socializing together and recognizing and celebrating our achievements of the year. While we work in a 24/7/365 industry, it is important to pause and take stock of what we have accomplished together as a team – something that is not always easy to do when surrounded by the hustle and bustle of the office.

Social events like this help to bring the team together and recognize and reward the hard work and effort that goes into delivering projects for our clients.

We work hard, but we like to think that Team Opex celebrated Christmas in style. Here’s to another big year!
